Colour, clarity and cut are the standard measures of a diamond’s worth. The first three qualities are determined by nature, but a rough stone must be cut and polished to reveal its true brilliance. This is a fine art in which our master craftsmen are expert.
Colour is judged on a chromatic scale from highly prized colourless stones to more yellow stones. Nordic Fire gems are renowned for their pure, colourless beauty.
Clarity is determined by internal characteristics such as the presence of inclusions. A diamond is described as ‘loupe-clean’ when no inclusions are visible under 10x magnification.
Carat is the weight unit of a diamond, with one carat weighing 0.2 grams. The term carat derives from the Keration, a common Middle Eastern tree known for the uniform weight of its seeds. Nordic Fire rough stones are usually one carat and greater.
